This panel questions and problematizes the notion of kitsch within International Relations and Social Analysis. The main goal will be to explore the new challenges for IR: terrorism, globalisation, and contemporary Islam. Walter Benjamin's theory of kitsch will provide a theoretical and empirical basis for our line of intellectual discourse.
